Mobile clinic
Several times a week the mobile clinic goes out into the community for post natal home visits. Every newborn and mom receive a visit and baby pack. The mobile clinic assist with breastfeeding, feeding advice and support where needed. It also provides weighing points in different places of the community. Through weighing and seeing the babies, abnormalities or sickness get detected and referred to the clinic or doctor.
Currently the mobile clinic is headed up by Trudy Zevenbergen, a volunteer from the Netherlands, and assisted with a nurse assistant, Gugu, who speaks Xhosa and knows the community very well. We don't have a vehicle for the mobile clinic yet, Trudy is using her own car. The vision is to get a clinic bus with a sister on board to add more services like immunizations and pregnancy checks. It can also be used for medical outreaches to other communities.
